A test for coronary artery disease is available at St Joe's for $99 out of pocket expense. This test looks for calcium in the heart, because calcium shows up where the plaque is. So if there is plaque then we are more concerned about the risk of heart attack and are more attentive to cholesterol levels, etc.
In other words this is a screening test which gives very good information about the risk for heart attack.
Please consider doing this test if you are in the target group, especially if you are diabetic, have a family history of heart attack, or are a smoker. You don't need a prescription, but do tell them that we are the physicians so that we will get the results and can let you know what the next steps would be.
And tell your friends! This is the best option I have found to monitor risk for coronary artery disease. It is much better than regular cholesterol screening. Just call 734-712-5200 to sign up.
To your health,
Dr. Molly
